The Twenty First and Twenty Second Courses | 2019-2020 (biannual):

Assessment of works in this course terminated in winter 2021 and the long list and the pre-final list of selected works have been announced. The best novel, two praised novels and two appreciated novels are also elected by the jury.
According to the arranged schedule of the secretariat, the final ceremony was to be held in October 2022, but due to the acrimonious and sorrowful circumstances, whose description was rendered in the statement of the director and 24 members of the Jury on 11th of Mehr (October), was postponed to some other occasion.   


The Twenty Third and Twenty Fourth Courses | 2021-2022 (biannual):

The introductory preparations for election of the best first printed novel in 2021 and 2022 have begun and are still in progress in the secretariat office of Mehregan Prize.

The evaluation of this course works was finalized in winter 2021 and the long list and the pre-final list of short story collections have been declared: The selected best collection, two praised collections and two appreciated collections.

According to the determined schedule by the secretariat office of Mehregan Prize, the final ceremony was supposed to be celebrated in October 2002T but due to the current bitter and grievous conditions whose explanation was presented in the statement issued by the director and 24 members of the Jury in October 2022, it is deferred to a later occasion.

The preparation of these courses for electing the best first-print collection of the years 2021-2022 has already started and is still in progress.

The Mehregan Prize Selected Winner for “A Life-time Attempt in Writing”:


​​​​​​​​​​​​​​According to Mehregan Prize agenda in “A Life-time Attempt in Writing”, election of a writer for the collection of his/her composed works requires the unanimous consensus of the jury members; if no such consensus, there will be no award given. It is worth mentioning that this requirement is not necessary in other sections, but what counts, are the highest votes attained by the writers’ works.

The members of the Jury are considering the collection of works of eminent and outstanding contemporary figures in fiction.

Mehregan Prize Selected Winners of Literature in the Section of Mother Tongue (Novel and Short Story Collections): 


Mehregan Prize, in October 2018 coincidental with the twentieth course of Mehregan Persian Literature, added one more section concerned with the mother tongue: Mehregan Prize for mother tongue works, which are initially published in non-Farsi (the writer’s mother tongue) and then translated into Persian, was held. 
This Award, with respect for mother-language-speakers in the vast culture of Iran territory, was founded and is granted with the objective of introduction and appreciation of the effort of those authors who compose in their mother tongue and thus serve to preserve it. It also involves

  • The best novel

  • The best short story collection

  • A life-time attempt in writing with regard to the body of the writer’s works


The First Course | 2018:

The Best Novel:
Akharin Rooz-hay-e Zendegi (in Kurdish)l by Ata Nahaei; translated by Karim Mojaver.
The Praised Novel:
Parandehha Digar Nemitarsand (in Azarbayejani Turkish language) by Roghayeh Karimi; translated by Late Hamzeh Farahati.
The Best Short Story Collection:
In this course, short story collection had no winner.


The Second and Third Courses | 2019-2020:

The evaluation of the works finished in winter 2021 and according to the previously designed schedule, the final ceremony of prize giving was supposed to take place in October 2021, but to the critical and catastrophic social circumstances in Iran, it was postponed to an appropriate occasion in the future. Four novels and a short story collection have got to the final stage and have been announced. 

The Fourth and Fifth Courses | 2021-2022:

The primary actions have started and already done and the process is still in progress and continued.

The Prize Winners for Literature Overseas or Abroad Mehregan Prize Selected Winners of Literature Overseas:


​​​​​​​Coincidental with Mehregan Prize twentieth course, the prize for literary works of literature in Persian outside Iran or overseas was added. The call for evaluating the first-print works of 2017 and 2018 was announced. 126 novels and short story collections were received by the secretariat office and their evaluation or assessment started by 5 literary critic and writers inhabiting abroad.  Prior to the announcement of the names of the winners and final ceremony, the continuation and celebration ceremony was banned and ceased. The prize-giving process is also postponed to the next occasion and next notice.
Mehregan Prize for Literature Outside Iran consists of the following sections too:
“the best novel”

  • Mehregan prize of literature abroad for “the best short story collection”
  • Mehregan prize of literature abroad for “A life-time attempt in Writing”​​​​​​​

Golden Literary Mehregan Prize:


​​​​​​​Golden Literary Mehregan Prize for the best novel or best short story collection from one decade of Mehregan Prize is also held. The first decade of this prize coincided with 2009 tragic events in Iran and the celebration of this ceremony was almost impossible. Thus, at the end of second decade of Mehregan Prize (2020), consideration of 41 selected and praised novels in the first twenty years took place (first and second decades)  and in one occasion were commonly held.

Seven Jury members including Goli Emami, Parvin Salajegheh, Mehdi Ghabraei, Mozhdeh Daghighi, Fazan Sojoudi, and Late Sorayya Ghezel Ayagh were in charge of evaluation and judgment of the novel for Golden literary prize. The whole process of assessment ended in April of 2021 and ten finalist novels of the prize were determined. But due to the Covid 19 epidemic and the subsequent restraints, the ceremony was also deferred to some other occasion to dedicate the prize to the winner of the selected novel.
